A businessman who illegally organised the flight that killed footballer Emiliano Sala has been jailed. David Henderson has been locked up for 18 months after he was convicted of endangering the safety of the aircraft after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court in October.
Sala, the 28-year-old striker involved in a £15 million transfer to Cardiff City from Nantes FC, died when the small plane he was flying in entered the English Channel in January 2019.
The aircraft's pilot, David Ibbotson, 59, also died. The flight the Argentinian player took was organised by Henderson, 67, who was the plane’s operator, with football agent William “Willie” McKay.
