Brent Scowcroft was national security advisor to two presidents, Gerald Ford (1913 – 2006) and George H.W. Bush (1924 – 2018).A U.S.
Air Force veteran, Scowcroft was working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff when he was tapped by Henry Kissinger to become deputy national security advisor in 1973.
Two years later, when Ford drastically reorganized his cabinet in the 1975 “Halloween Massacre,” Scowcroft took Kissinger’s place as national security advisor.
