Celebrity deaths are always difficult for that person’s fans. But in 2020, the world lost some true icons way before their time. The year started with the tragic death of L.A. Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26 at just 41-years-old. Even more heartbreaking was the fact that his basketball prodigy daughter Gianna, 13, perished along with her dad in the crash. Kobe was in the prime of his life, embracing his second chapter following his retirement from the Lakers in 2016, after bringing Los Angeles five NBA championships. He had already won an Oscar for his Best Animated Short Dear Basketball, and wanted to embrace his new career as a storyteller.

MTV VMAs ‘in memoriam’ segment.A number of stars were honoured as part of the 2020 Video Music Awards, including Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman and Glee‘s Naya Rivera.Blink-182‘s Travis Barker introduced the segment during the ceremony, which was held around New York City, socially distanced but without an audience.Fans of Bryant, who died in January after his private helicopter crashed, were disappointed that the late L.A.

2020 MTV VMAs took to social media to express their disappointment at the absence of late NBA star Kobe Bryant in the awards show’s “In Memoriam” segment. The ceremony was broadcast from New York on Sunday and the segment honored stars who have passed away in recent months.While Travis Barker's introduction mentioned late rappers like Juice Wrld and Pop Smoke and noted that the segment would honor “other brilliant artists we lost,” not everyone included in the tribute was primarily associated with music — such as film actor, Chadwick Boseman.

Natalia Bryant, the eldest daughter of the late NBA great  Kobe Bryant  , posted a beautiful picture posing with her mom,  Vanessa Bryant . “Momma and me @vanessabryant ❤️ Thank you @brianbowensmith”, read the post on Natalia’s Instagram account.
