Asteroids smashing into Earth and Mars might have helped spark life on both planets, scientists have said. The space rocks acted as a gun firing together different materials towards amino acids which formed the first traces of life when they smashed into water, according to researchers.Over time, the molecules they brought helped form life on Earth and potentially on the Red Planet, they add.Japanese scientists have two explanations about how life began on Earth – either it was via “extraterrestrial delivery” brought by meteorites or by naturally forming on Earth. The research appears to point to the “extraterrestrial” option, according to the numerous Japanese institutions which carried out the study.Professor Yoshihiro Furukawa, of Tohoku.
