Seven years ago, Rich and Jackie MacKenzie purchased a secondhand 60ft narrowboat with the intention of living onboard permanently with their two children.
The couple made the jump after they realised how much they were spending on rent and bills, how stressed they were and how little quality time they had with their children.
However, they were reluctant to travel full-time. While it seemed attractive, Rich worked long hours as a gardener and the children were attending school. Now the pair – along with son Bob, now 13, and daughter Fleur, seven, two dogs and a cat spend life navigating the waterways of Britain, recently travelling around Greater Manchester, and have no plans to return to a bricks-and-mortar home.
