Arsenal outcast William Saliba has admitted that playing for the club's under 23s gave him a "good slap".Saliba, who is currently on loan at Marseille, joined the Gunners from Saint Etienne for £27million in 2019, but is still yet to make a first-team appearance for the north Londoners. The 20-year-old has, however, featured twice for Arsenal's U23s, against Gillingham and Wimbledon in the Papa John's Trophy before a loan move to Nice last year.In an interview with French outlet RMC, Saliba revealed his experience of playing in England's third cup competition gave him a real wake up call. "Before going to Arsenal, I said to myself I was going to play, I was sure, I was wondering who I would play alongside," he said. "I arrive, I play 0 matches.

I played for the U23s. That gave me a good slap."After a spell on loan at Nice, Saliba and fellow Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi joined Marseille at the start of the current season, and it's fair to say he hasn't looked back.

The French international has made 27 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants this term, with his impressive performances prompting some Gunners fans to suggest he be recalled to the Emirates. Should Saliba be given a chance by Mikel Arteta?
