A heartbroken wife has been left with no choice but to pay £177 a day to hold her husband's hand after he suffered a massive heart attack in Tenerfie.

Ex-policeman Bill Annabele, 75, from Pontefract, is in hospital after he suddenly collapsed in Playa de las Américas. His wife, Dot, 64, has claimed that an error with their travel insurance provider has seen her hit with a hefty £23,000 medical bill and left her unable to fly her husband back to Britain.

Bill, who now has severe brain damage as a result of his heart attack, is being treated in a hospital on the opposite side of the Canary isle to their holiday apartment.
