A cheeky Scots dog has lost 2.5ft of his intestines after he accidentally swallowed one of his rope toys. Charlie the chocolate Labrador was rushed into the Albavet branch in Kirkcaldy, Fife, after his worried owner raised the alarm.

Animal medics were forced to cut out part of his guts as they struggled to retrieve the foreign object, which had quickly moved through his system.

Thankfully Charlie is back on “bouncing form” despite his ordeal which has left him sporting an impressive scar on his stomach.Sharing images of the offending toy, Albavet said: “We’ve seen dogs and cats swallow tablets, ribbons, balls, raisins, chocolate, kebab sticks and even fridge magnets recently. Has your pet ever swallowed anything strange?
