A water main burst twice in Ayr this morning leaving the railway line flooded and homes without supply. A 15 inch trunk main burst outside Ayr Railway station, which was followed by another secondary rupture further along the pipe.
A water tanker has been stationed at Morrisons to keep the supermarket operating with emergency supplies. Scottish Water workers have been carrying out repairs with diggers on the water main.
It warned a large number of customers would have lost supply if staff had not moved quickly to isolate both bursts. Workers brought in water from elsewhere to keep taps running for "most" customers according to a statement.
