A mini heat wave starting today could see highs of 27C before the weekend - but scorching temperatures will quickly ebb away, forecasters warn.
Met Officeweather charts show plenty of warm weather and sunny skies between now and the end of the weekend - with the heat peaking on Friday afternoon.
Previous forecasts had suggested Brits would have to wait until Saturday for Mediterranean highs, preceded by days of cloud and rain.
Meteorologist Clare Nasir said Thursday will be a "better day all around" than yesterday outside of the northwest of the country, with highs of 23C and sunshine for many.
