Britain will suffer through days of thick cloud and drizzly rain before the skies clear in time for a weekend heatwave with highs of 26C.
Parts of the UK peaked in the mid-20s yesterday, though Tuesday is expected to be cooler with substantial cloud coverage building "over the next two or three days".
But the Met Office is predicting a potentially "very warm" weekend, particularly in the southeast. BBC meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker described the week as "cloudy, cloudy, cloudy, then Friday and Saturday turning a little bit warmer and brighter".
He said Brits will wake up today to a mild morning with temperatures in the low to mid teens and apart from a "few sunny breaks" there will be "a lot of cloud".
