Met Office have issued a heavy snow alert as white stuff is set to blanket Britain for days as mercury plummets to -3C. Forecasters predict "blizzard conditions" as six inches of snow is set to fall in the peaks of Scotland this weekend.
The rest of the UK will face up to two inches of white stuff falling while drivers and public transport are warned to expect disruptions.
A snow weather alert is set to be in force on Saturday 5, from 5pm until Sunday 6, at 3pm. The Met Office predict that temperatures will dramatically plummet to as low as -3C in Scotland.
The alert states: "Frequent and occasionally heavy snow showers are expected on Saturday night and Sunday, and combined with strong westerly winds will lead to blizzard conditions and drifting snow on higher routes across Highland."Accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are possible in places, with 10 to 15 cm accumulating on routes above 300 metres."Icy patches will be an additional hazard, more especially across western coastal areas."The alert warns people to expect transport delays too.It added: "Some roads and railways (will likely be) affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services."Weather maps from independent forecaster WXCharts show patchy snow landing across all parts of the UK before a large plume of snow lands in Scotland on Saturday.
