This week MPs voted to approve the Nationality and Borders Bill. In its current form, the Bill would give the government significant powers to overhaul the country's immigration and citizenship system, including, controversially, the ability to strip people of British citizenship.
Also among its proposals is a plan to speed up the deportation of 'foreign criminals' who offended in the UK, with the Home Office saying, in a policy paper, that 'under the current broken system those facing removal or deportation from the UK can sometimes raise numerous and repeated barriers delaying their departure from the UK'.
