9 things you may have missed from Wagatha Christie case - from 'sleepover' to Davy Jones
Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy kicked off their Wagatha Christie libel trial at the High Court this week. The pair both got in the witness box to answer questions about the now-infamous sting operation by Rooney in 2019.Rooney, who is married to England star Wayne, accused the fellow WAG of leaking stories about her.The 36-year-old uploaded several fake stories to her private Instagram account in a bid to find out who was “betraying” her before revealing it on social media.Vardy, 40 denies the allegations and is suing Rooney, the wife of England star Wayne, for libel. Here are nine things you may have missed:In her witness statement, Rooney said she received an “over the top” message from Vardy inviting her to stay at her house in 2017.She said the offer came after Wayne was stopped by police for drink-driving with party-goer Laura Simpson in Cheshire.Rooney said: “I had a WhatsApp exchange with Becky in which she checked in on how I was doing and even offered for me to stay at her house if I wanted to get away from things.“On the face of things, this was obviously a nice gesture, but I did think at the time that it was a bit over the top because Becky and I weren’t particularly close friends.”One of the Instagram posts being discussed at the trial is about a picture of a damaged Honda Rooney posted after she had an accident in America. The court heard messages between Vardy and her agent Caroline Watt in which Watt tells Vardy The Sun are trying to confirm if she crashed it.Vardy messaged Watt: “Haha yeah she defo did.”Giving evidence Rooney told the court she had not crashed the car, as an article in The Sun stated, but a lorry had scraped the side of it.She told the court: “Wayne’s football team was sponsored by Audi

Rebekah Vardy gives courtroom a laugh after asking what Davy Jones means in Wagatha Christie trial
Rebekah Vardy admitted she didn’t know what ‘Davy Jones’ meant. The legal battle between Mrs Vardy, wife of Leicester City footballer Jamie Vardy, and fellow WAG Coleen Rooney continued at the Royal Courts of Justice on Thursday. Mrs Vardy, 40, denies leaking stories to the media and is suing Mrs Rooney, 36, for libel, while Mrs Rooney – who is wife of former England footballer Wayne Rooney – is defending the claim on the basis her post was ‘substantially true’. As proceedings got underway earlier today, the court was reminded that Mrs Vardy’s agent Caroline Watt said during an earlier preliminary hearing that her phone had fallen into the North Sea. Mr Sherborne, barrister for Mrs Rooney, remarked: ‘We know that Miss Watt’s phone is now in Davy Jones’ Locker, don’t we, Mrs Vardy?’ Mrs Vardy appeared confused and replied: ‘I’m sorry, I don’t know who Davy Jones is.’ The courtroom burst into laughter as the judge explained to Mrs Vardy that it was an idiom referring to the resting place of sailors who drowned at the bottom of the sea. Youngsters today may be more familiar with the term from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which features a character named Davy Jones who is a tyrannical captain and dark lord of the Seven Seas. Mr Sherborne had read reported text messages between Mrs Vardy and Ms Watt, where the agent told the TV personality: ‘I would have tried to have done a story on Coleen but the evidence has been deleted.’ Ms Watt allegedly continued: ‘Halls is trying to do a story on Coleen crashing her car but her PR won’t even reply.

Rebekah Vardy asks ‘Who’s Davy Jones?’ as Rooney lawyer mentions phone in sea
Rebekah Vardy was left confused after Coleen Rooney's lawyer made a niche nautical pun while he interrogated the WAG over publicist Caroline Watt’s missing phone. During the third day of her libel case against Coleen Rooney, the 40-year-old was questioned about the “unfortunate” incident that found her publicist’s phone lost in the North Sea.Mrs Rooney is being sued for libel after claiming Mrs Vardy's Instagram account was used to leak private information to the press, which Vardy denies. In court on Thursday (May 12), brunette Rebekah was left baffled after Mrs Rooney’s barrister David Sherborne questioned her about the missing messages between herself and her agent Caroline. As Vardy took the stand, Mr Sherborne accused the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy of leaking another story based on a photo on her private Instagram account. While the mum-of-two denied the claims, Mr Sherborne then spoke of the absence of the WhatsApp messages. The jury heard how her agent’s mobile phone accidentally fell overboard from a boat into the water shortly after a judge had ordered for it to be examined ahead of the trial. He said the missing messages were “lying at the bottom of the North Sea in Davy Jones’s locker”.It was at this point that Vardy asked: “Who is Davy Jones?” to which the judge, Mrs Justice Steyn, replied: “It just means at the bottom of the sea.”Coleen’s barrister explained after a series of leaks from her private account, the mum-of-four posted a message on social media in view of her 923,000 followers. It read: “The grass strikes again.
