New York Times reports.A recent opinion article in Variety questioned whether it was finally time for the group to change its name.The author said ‘Dixie’ was the ‘epitome of white America, a celebration of a Southern tradition that is indivisible from Black slaves and those grand plantations where they were forced to toil for free.’The rebrand comes as the band, which formed in 1989, prepare to release their first album in 14 years, Gaslighter, on July 17.The trio has won over a dozen grammy awards and famously criticised President George W.

Bush at their London concert in 2003, when lead singer Natalie Maines said ‘we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas.’The three women later appeared on a Entertainment.
