Kevin Smith’s long-awaited documentary about Prince is set to finally “see the light” of day”.The director had previously revealed the access he had to Prince before the musician’s death from a fentanyl overdose in 2016.Smith had spent hours talking to Prince at his Paisley Park Estate for the project and was given access-all-areas for several months according to reports.When asked by The Guardian what the chances were of the film coming to screens, Smith said: “Very high.”He went on: “The director of OJ: Made in America is making a documentary for Netflix, and came to the house to interview me. When they went to the vaults after Prince died, they found so much unreleased music and so many music videos, but the only footage of him talking was what I shot.“It’s extraordinary: he acts differently to how he ever acted in his entire life, and he talks for hours and hours.

Prince‘s estate denied Sinead O’Connor use of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ for her new documentary, it has been revealed.Nothing Compares, a new film directed by Kathryn Ferguson, will chronicle O’Connor’s rise to fame in the early ‘90s. In addition to input from people close to the singer, the documentary will include a new interview with O’Connor herself.A great part of this success came from her decision to cover ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in 1990, with the song partially giving the film its title.However, the cover won’t appear in the film, with Prince’s half-sister and co-heir telling Billboard that the estate refused the request because “I didn’t feel she deserved to use the song.”Sharon Nelson added: “Nothing compares to Prince’s live version with Rosie Gaines that is featured on the ‘Hits 1‘ album and we are re-releasing that album on vinyl on November 4th.“I didn’t feel [Sinéad] deserved to use the song my brother wrote in her documentary so we declined. His version is the best.”Director Ferguson then added: “Initially we had intended to use the song, but we received a refusal (which as the rights holders, was their prerogative).“In the end we were very happy with that section of the film.

Eide in the First Judicial District of Minnesota ruled on Monday that the late singer's assets be dispersed between Prince's half-siblings (Sharon Nelson, John Nelson and Norrine Nelson) and their families, their advisers and the music publishing company Primary Wave.Prince's cash — totaling $6 million — and various holding companies have also been split evenly between a holding company called Prince Legacy LLC (which consists of interests previously held by the Nelsons) and Prince Oat Holdings LLC (which consists of interests previously held by Prince's three other half-siblings (Tyka Nelson, Omarr Baker, Alfred Jackson and Primary Wave).According to the legal, documents Comerica Bank & Trust (the court-appointed administrator that handled the estate's affairs while the probate case was litigated) will get $3 million «as a reserve to ensure it can pay the costs and expenses associated with closing the Estate, including the preparation of tax returns, professional fees» and any other court expenses.Comerica Bank & Trust has also been «discharged from any and all duties and liability related to the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson associated with Comerica's service as personal representative of the Estate through the end of the Transition Period.» Prince, who died in April 2016, did not leave a will behind and he had no children or spouse. As such, his six half-siblings were named heirs to the estate,  reported.

Jack White has clarified the previous comments he made about his plans to “re-edit” Prince‘s unreleased album ‘Camille’.As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, the musician’s label Third Man Records secured the rights to the late icon’s scrapped 1986 record in March.Although ‘Camille’ was never shared as a complete body of work, all eight tracks that were initially intended to feature on the record have been released in some form (as B-sides or on other reissues etc).For the project, Prince used a pitch-shifting studio technique in order to make his vocals sound more feminine and planned to share the finished product under the pseudonym Camille.This week, White appeared to share his plans for the lost album during an interview with the Daily Star newspaper’s ‘Wired’ column.“We are able to re-edit it as it was originally planned,” he reportedly explained (via Music-News.COM). “So that is great news.

The Queen was joined by the extended royal family today to pay their respects to the late Prince Philip who died last April aged 99.The family were reunited for a service of thanksgiving held on Tuesday 29 March at Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 95, was escorted into the venue by her son Prince Andrew, 62, and wore a green outfit for the occasion as she paid tribute to her husband Philip, who died on 9 April 2021. One of the first to arrive at the Abbey was the Queen's niece Lady Sarah Chatto with whom she shares an especially close bond.
