The Prince estate has revealed that it denied permission for Sinead O’Connor to use her version of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in a new documentary about her career because they “didn’t feel she deserved to use the song”.Although best known via O’Connor’s 1990 cover of it, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was written and originally performed by Prince. Hence the need for the estate – via its publishing deal with Universal Music – to grant permission for O’Connor’s version of the song to be included in the documentary, which is called ‘Nothing Compares’.“Nothing compares to Prince’s [1993] live version with Rosie Gaines that is featured on the ’Hits 1’ album and we are re-releasing that album on vinyl on 4 Nov”, Prince’s half-sister Sharon Nelson tells Billboard.

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music Tyka Nelson, a Minneapolis-based singer and Prince’s only full sibling, died Monday morning, a rep for Prince’s estate confirms to Variety. No cause of death was reported; she was 64. Nelson released four albums between 1988 and 2011 and was scheduled to supposed to hold her retirement and farewell concert last June, but became ill and the concert took place without her.

Prince has been posthumously inducted ito the Songwriter’s Hall Of Fame, the “award he wanted more than any other in life”.The induction – which took place last Saturday (July 27) at the Target Centre in the singer’s native Minneapolis – saw his sister, Sharon Nelson, accept the award. The ceremony also coincided at a 40th anniversary screening of his film Purple Rain (1984).After being inducted by longtime collaborator Gilbert Davidson, Nelson accepted the award, telling the crowd: “You will always remember his songs.“This is the award he wanted more than any other in life — to be known as a great songwriter.”Prince is the second artists to be posthumously inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, after the late Cindy Walker was inducted in April.Prince was originally set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.

Prince's $156 million estate will be dispersed and who is set to receive it, bringing an end to a six-year court battle.According to legal documents, obtained by ET, Judge Kevin W. Eide in the First Judicial District of Minnesota ruled on Monday that the late singer's assets be dispersed between Prince's half-siblings (Sharon Nelson, John Nelson and Norrine Nelson) and their families, their advisers and the music publishing company Primary Wave.Prince's cash — totaling $6 million — and various holding companies have also been split evenly between a holding company called Prince Legacy LLC (which consists of interests previously held by the Nelsons) and Prince Oat Holdings LLC (which consists of interests previously held by Prince's three other half-siblings (Tyka Nelson, Omarr Baker, Alfred Jackson and Primary Wave).According to the legal, documents Comerica Bank & Trust (the court-appointed administrator that handled the estate's affairs while the probate case was litigated) will get $3 million «as a reserve to ensure it can pay the costs and expenses associated with closing the Estate, including the preparation of tax returns, professional fees» and any other court expenses.Comerica Bank & Trust has also been «discharged from any and all duties and liability related to the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson associated with Comerica's service as personal representative of the Estate through the end of the Transition Period.» Prince, who died in April 2016, did not leave a will behind and he had no children or spouse. As such, his six half-siblings were named heirs to the estate,  reported.
