A sex-obsessed Galapagos tortoise who may have saved his species from extinction with his rampant romping has officially retired.Heroic Diego has been shipped out of the Galapagos national park's breeding program on Santa Cruz Island.The randy reptile has now been taken to the remote and uninhabited Espanola.Ecuador's environment minister, Paulo Proano Andrade, hailed it as the end of an era.He said: “We are closing an important chapter."He added that Diego will "return home after decades of breeding in captivity and saving their species from extinction".Mr Andrade also said that Diego, who goes home with 25 other tortoises, was welcomed with "open arms".In heartwarming images the animal is seen being escorted off of a speedboat back.
