'Serious crash' on M74 as police seal off Scots motorway for several hours

A 'serious road crash' closed off one of Scotland' busiest motorways with emergency crews on the scene for several hours. Police were called to the M74 near Ecclefechan, Dumfries and Galloway on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were alerted to a one-vehicle crash on the southbound carriageway, which took place at around 2.20pm. No injuries have been reported at this stage.

The exact cause of the crash has not yet been revealed by police. At around 4.20pm on Saturday officers confirmed the incident and stated that emergency crews remained at the scene while road closures and diversions were still in place.A police spokeswoman told the Record: “At around 2.20pm on Saturday, December 18 officers were called to a report of a serious road crash
