A knackered nightshift worker missed the birth of his Christmas baby – after going home for a kip. Dad Nabil Ahmed, 24, had spent all day Friday at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity Unit in Glasgow with his wife Kiran.

But the security officer headed back to their home in Shawlands around 11pm and his daughter Mahi Ahmed was born soon after.

She was delivered safe and well weighing 7lb and 8oz with the help of Nabil’s sister Iqra Ahmed, 22, who’d arrived to support Kiran as he couldn’t be raised.Nabil, who was back at work shortly afterwards, told the Sunday Mail: “My daughter was born at 5.42am and my sister texted me a few minutes later to say she had been at the birth and I was a father.“Obviously I was shocked that I
