Russia is using mobile crematoriums to hide its horrific war crimes in Ukraine, according to the UK's Defence Secretary. Ben Wallace also accused Vladimir Putin's army of disposing of their own dead to disguise the true number of soldiers killed.

He made the comments on Monday (May 9) in a speech at the National Army Museum in London, while President Putin oversaw a Victory Day parade in Moscow to mark the end of World War Two.

Wallace said: "Since February we have witnessed a systemic refusal to tell the truth up the chain of command, and it is playing out."Consider the fact alone that mobile crematoria trundle around the battlefields not just to hide Russian war crimes, they are for their own soldiers’ corpses as well."Imagine what it must do to the morale of a private soldier to know your commanders have so little faith in their campaign that you are followed around by those horrific contraptions." Regarding yesterday's military parade in Russia's capital, Wallace said that the country's tyrant leader wanted his people and the rest of the world "to be awed and intimidated" by his military might.

He also said that Putin's ongoing invasion of Ukraine "dishonoured" the Russian soldiers who helped defeat the Nazis. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletter by clicking here."[The conflict] does nothing but dishonour those same soldiers.
