Russia has said it will deploy its Satan II "super-weapon", a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), by autumn.
Vladimir Putin recently tested the Sarmat missile, capable of carrying more than 10 nuclear warheads over 6,000km and striking the UK.The launch this week came after the weapon's development was pushed back for years due to funding problems and technical issues.
It has actually been in development since 2018 and will now replace the Soviet-era Voyevoda missile system. The autumn deployment target has been set by Dmitry Rogozin, head of the Roscosmos space agency, although western military experts say several more tests will need to be conducted before Satan II sees any action.
Speaking to Russian TV, Rogozin explained that he plans to deploy the "super-weapon" in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia, some 3,000km east of the capital Moscow.
