Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has admitted he had “never heard” of Nemanja Vidic before the Red Devils signed the Serbian.
Vidic headed to Old Trafford from Spartak Moscow in 2006 and went on to form a strong partnership with Ferdinand at the centre of United’s defence.
It wasn’t always easy for Vidic though, with Ferdinand admitting he didn’t think much of the Serb in his first sessions training with the Premier League giants.
Ferdinand said : “Never heard of him. I’ll be totally honest, that was my reaction when I heard that we were signing Nemanja Vidic. “At the time we had Mikael Silvestre and Wes Brown as our other centre-halves, and Mikael was probably playing a little bit more than Wes.“I think the manager wanted competition.
