Heartbroken friends are paying tribute to a retired bank worker found battered to death in her home. Suzanne Winnister, 66, suffered severe head and neck injuries at the gated mock-Tudor property in Bexley, south-east London, where she lived with her husband.

Police were called to the home in a quiet cul-de-sac on Tuesday night, and were quizzing a 68-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder and who police say was known to Mrs Winnister.

A 64-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the probe has been released under investigation, said a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police.

Mrs Winnister's body was found at 9.15pm, reportedly by the partner of one of her nieces after she failed to respond to calls.
