Plea for interpreters who worked with British troops in Afghanistan to be allowed in UK

A top ex-diplomat is pleading for 150 interpreters who worked with British troops during the Afghan War to be allowed into the UK.

Retired colonel Simon Diggins was “filled with utter despair” after the Mirror revealed brave interpreters are so desperate for sanctuary that they are living in squalid Calais camps.

Up to 2,500 well-educated Afghans risked death by helping British troops in Afghanistan from 2001-13 – saving many soldiers’ lives.

Many are now in hiding for fear of being tortured and killed along with their loved ones by the resurgent and vengeful Taliban.
