Cardiff City hero and ex-England Under-21 international winger Peter Whittingham has died in hospital. At the age of 35, the former player, who rose up through the youth ranks at Aston Villa before going on to build a top career at Cardiff, has lost his life.

Whittingham had a fall at a pub in Barry on Saturday, March 7, where he was watching Wales' Six Nations clash with England. He was in a critical condition at Cardiff's Heath Hospital and was placed in intensive care, where he could not recover.

He leaves behind his wife Amanda who is currently pregnant. Whittingham made 460 appearances for Cardiff and the Bluebirds released a heartfelt statement detailing their devastation at the news.
