Byrne stars on the Apple TV+ show as Sheila Rubin, an aerobics entrepreneur in the 1980s whose business is booming just as her marriage is falling apart and she secretly suffers from an eating disorder. “It’s challenging,” Byrne said in depicting the illness on a dark comedy. “I did a lot of research. I spoke to people in recovery. I spoke to a wonderful young woman who worked in an ED recovery center who was every day with people in recovery and all of the behaviors.”

, Zooey Deschanel is returning to TV as a network star who decides to enter the fitness industry in the third and final season of. Only ET has the first look at Deschanel in character as Kelly as well as other new images of Rose Byrne as Sheila Rubin and Dierdre Friel who plays Greta Hauser in the half-hour Apple TV+ dramedy from creator and executive producer Annie Weisman. According to Deschanel, «Kelly is like Sheila’s shadow side and she challenges her on every level. She’s her frenemy, her foil, her obsession,» the actress tells ET.

While speaking to People for an interview published on Wednesday, the Platonic star was asked whether she would like to eventually tie the knot with the Boardwalk Empire actor. But “Platonic” also models itself after another, more enduring classic: Nora Ephron’s “When Harry Met Sally,” a film explicitly referenced in the pilot of “Platonic” and the greatest work of art drawn from the essentially trite question of whether (straight) men and women can be friends. In “Neighbors,” Rogen and Byrne played spouses. In “Platonic,” they’re long-estranged besties who rekindle their codependent bond. As premises go, it’s a thin one. Ephron’s opus is now 34 years old, and even “When Harry Met Sally” was less seriously engaged with the idea of friendship between the sexes than using the setup as a showcase for Ephron’s wit, Meg Ryan’s charm and Ryan’s chemistry with Billy Crystal. “Men and women don’t really hang out with each other at our age,” says Sylvia (Byrne), a former lawyer who’s now a stay-at-home mother of three. Her argument is half-hearted, unconvincing and immediately dismissed by her husband Charlie (Luke Macfarlane), who encourages Sylvia to get in touch with craft brewer Will (Rogen) in the wake of his divorce.

Paramount has bumped up its nationwide release date for the CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from Friday, August 4 to Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own darkly funny take on life she rarely lets the world see. As she battles her own personal demons, Sheila comes to find a release through the world of aerobics. Season two found Sheila, having successfully launched her first fitness video only to encounter some new and bigger obstacles on her path. She is torn between loyalty to her husband (Rory Scovel) and the values he represents, and a dangerous attraction to someone else. And since she’s no longer the only game in town, she finds herself having to outrun some fierce new competitors on the road to building a full-fledged fitness empire.
