Patients urged away from A&E after serious crash closes main road to Wigan hospital

Patients are being urged to avoid Wigan's main accident and emergency department after a crash close a key road. Wigan Lane was shut following a collision between a car and a van at around 2pm today and bosses at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary say the incident has blocked entry to the hospital's A&E.

Anyone needing urgent treatment has been told to use alternative hospitals in Bolton, Leigh, Chorley and Preston.
