More than 10,000 workers in Motherwell and Wishaw have been put on furlough according to new figures.A total of 10,600 employees have been enrolled onto the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) since the scheme was launched.In neighbouring Airdrie and Shotts, which includes Newmains, 10,800 workers have been sat at home during the Covid-19 pandemic.A total of 2,100 of claims were also made in the UK parliamentary constituency of Motherwell and Wishaw to the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) with claims totalling £6 million.Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows has called on the UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak to extend coronavirus schemes for as long as lockdown continues in Scotland otherwise workers could be forced back to work.
