NASA has reportedly created an artificial intelligence that can optimise missiles for ultimate range and destruction.Hypersonic missiles, which travel at more than 21000mph, can carry nukes and avoid almost all missile defence systems and obliterate targets with a high degree of precision. However, due to the amount of power and fuel required to fire them at high speeds, their application has so far been limited by heavy outdated space rockets.NASA are reportedly turning to 'scramjets', or 'supersonic combustion ramjet'.

These use highly efficient thrust mechanisms to achieve much higher speeds, and can be built much smaller, lighter, and with a greater range than conventional rockets.

Now NASA has developed an AI which can design scramjet missiles capable of reaching the mind-bending speeds required to evade enemy defences.According to tech writer Will Lockett, the AI "could design a hypersonic missile that is far faster and with greater range than any other in the world, sending the US to the forefront of this military arms race."The weapons are launched into space from the jet, orbit the Earth, and can strike anywhere on the planet in minutes. The AI could play a key role in the arms race to build a hypersonic missile.

The UK recently announced it will join forces with the US and Australia to build the missiles and stay ahead of China and Russia.
