Manchester council still seeking solutions to solve disabled access issues at Peterloo memorial more than a year on

to mark the 200th anniversary of the massacre last August.Since then officers, architects and Jeremy Deller, the Turner Prize-winning artist who designed the memorial, have been trying to find ways of making it more accessible.Plans for a wheelchair lift, bridge or ramp were among six options considered by the design team working in consultation with the Peterloo Massacre Accessibility Campaign group.But the council’s communities and equalities committee were told in September that none of the options were viable due to the site constraints and the monument’s geometric design.Members were also not invited to a public meeting on the future of the Peterloo memorial in November, which has since been pushed back over further accessibility.
