A man was watching football on the TV when police rushed into his home and arrested him. Officers used a 'wam-ram' to batter down the front door of Ralph Whincup's home in Salford while he watched a Manchester United match.

They arrested him amid a bomb scare near Salford Royal Hospital on Sunday, Manchester Evening reported. It later emerged the alert was caused by a firework which had been left in the boot of a car, prompting the evacuation of almost 50 nearby flats.

The Army bomb squad was called and concluded the items found in the Seat Leon were harmless. Mobile phone footage shows an officer calling Mr Whincup a "half-wit" before crashing through his front-door, close to where the car was parked.
