Officers were called to Councillor Lane in Cheadle at around 2.45pm on Friday (19 March) after a man was seen on the roof of a building.
Eye witnesses reported seeing a man throw objects from the roof, in the direction of police, although this has not been confirmed by GMP.
Councillor Lane, near to the Late Shop convenience store, was cordoned off. The man, aged 46, was safely escorted down from the roof and detained, police said.
