The Very First Sundance London Film And Music Festival Kicks Off In The Capital

I will be sharing a few of my picks of the festival over the next few days, kicking off with the wonderful LIBERAL ARTS (pictured below), a Josh Radnor scripted and directed fare that screened to audiences for the first time on Thursday evening. The film was a fave from this year’s Sundance in Park City, and this evening Radnor turned up to the fantastic Cineworld at The O2 to introduce his film, which also stars Zac Efron, Elizabeth Olsen and Richard Jenkins.

Paul Newman’s daughters sue late Hollywood star’s charitable foundation for $1,600,000
Paul Newman’s daughters are suing the late Hollywood star’s charitable foundation, accusing it of ‘dishonouring’ Newman’s legacy and going against his wishes. The charity is controlled and funded through Newman’s Own, the food and drink line which uses the actor’s likeness on products including pasta sauces and popular salad dressings.Susan Kendall Newman and Nell Newman, two of the star’s six children, allege that their own charity organisations are supposed to receive $400,000 (£338,000) each annually – as mandated by their father – but that those payments have been slashed in half in recent years.Filing a lawsuit on Tuesday in Connecticut, the siblings are now seeking $1.6million (£1.35m) in damages to be donated to their own charities to distribute. The complaint also claims that the foundation has ‘lost its way and strayed from its mission to preserve and honour Paul Newman’s legacy’, with the sisters interpreting the apparent change as the start of a plan to force them out of the organisation and having any right in saying how the products’ profits are donated to charities. The foundation enjoys funding from the ownership of The Great Escape star’s publicity rights.Newman created Newman’s Own in 1982, with all profits going to charity, before creating the foundation in 2005.The popular star, known for roles in such classics as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth Taylor, Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, died in 2008.He had lived with his wife, actress Joanne Woodward, in Westport, Connecticut.Ms Newman and Ms Newman also say that their actor father only allowed the foundation to use his name and likeness providing it met several stipulations, which includes the $400,000 payments.Andy Lee, the

Ukrainian troops mock Putin using playing cards with his face and 'other war criminals'
Ukrainian troops have mocked bonkers Russian President Vladimir Putin by playing cards that have his face on.The brave soldiers have printed pictures of him alongside other “war criminals” onto the deck, in a similar move to US fighters against Saddam Hussein in Iraq. There are two editions of the cards, including one featuring Putin and the Russian government and another with photos of their top military officers.Ukrainian armed forces chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi worked alongside volunteers from the international intelligence community InformNapalm to produce the cards. He declared: “By the joint efforts of the military and volunteers, by the efforts of all people of goodwill…racism will inevitably be beaten.”Ukrainian soldiers who use the cards to play games as they relax will be able to identify people of interest – such as a Russian soldier accused of killing an innocent 62-year-old bloke, who was the first soldier to go to court for war crimes this week.Tank commander Vadim Shishimarin, 21, is accused of using an assault rifle to shoot the unarmed civilian as he rode his bicycle along the street.Stay in the loop with all the latest Daily Star news by signing up to one of our free newsletters here.Tragically, it isn’t the only alleged war crime – a Ukrainian government statement believes Russian military personnel have carried out over 10,000 possible war crimes.
