Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Disney+ has kicked off production on the second season of “Extraordinary,” the original comedy series from creator and writer Emma Moran and Sid Gentle Films (“Killing Eve”). A coming-of-age comedy, “Extraordinary” is led by a cast of rising U.K. talent, including Máiréad Tyers (“Belfast”) in the leading role, alongside Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna and Luke Rollason.

‘Killing Eve’ Producer Sid Gentle Wholly Acquired by BBC Studios

Yossman BBC Studios is set to wholly acquire Sid Gentle Films, the production company behind hits such as “Killing Eve” and “Ragdoll.” BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial production and distribution arm, is intent on growing its portfolio of U.K. scripted labels. It already wholly owns Lookout Point (“Happy Valley 3”), Clerkenwell Films (“Somewhere Boy”), House Productions (“Sherwood”) and most recently Firebird Pictures (“Wahala”) and is the controlling shareholder in Baby Cow (“Chivalry”). In 2018 it acquired a 51% stake in Sid Gentle, which was founded in 2013 by Sally Woodward Gentle, with Lee Morris and Henrietta Colvin.

Killing Eve spin-off is in early development, according to reports.The series, which hasn’t yet been green-lit, is said to focus on the early life of MI6 spymaster Carolyn Mertens, who is played by Fiona Shaw in the original series.Deadline reports that it understands that Sid Gentle Films is in discussions to produce the spin-off, which would come to BBC America and AMC Networks if given the thumbs up. No timetable on delivery has been given.The US publication added that it’s unclear whether the new show would air on BBC America (it’s broadcasted on the BBC in the UK) or another AMC Networks-owned channel or streaming service.
