Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly “upset and angry” at Luis Enrique’s decision to drop him from the Spain squad.De Gea was snubbed by the manager for Spain’s two friendly wins over Albania and Iceland last month.
The blow comes despite the shot-stopper being one of United's best players amid an otherwise lacklustre season.He was replaced by Athletic Bilbao keeper Unai Simon, who started for Spain at Euro 2020, and Premier League duo Robert Sanchez and David Raya.
And Spanish outlet AS claim Enrique directly phoned De Gea to give him the bad news before the decision was made public.The ex-Barcelona boss reportedly explained how he wanted to give the nation’s younger goalkeepers an opportunity.
But the report claims De Gea “did not take the decision well” and was left upset with the manager.They added that the 31-year-old saw “no justification” for being left out despite the attempt at an explanation.
