Machete-wielding man threatened to 'slice up' neighbour after boozy day-drinking session

Scott John, 23, had spent the day drinking before threatening to 'slice everybody up' when a war of words spiralled out of control outside his mum's house in Chell, Stoke-on-Trent on August 1 last year.Having been shouting and swearing beforehand, the man brandished a machete from his waistband and lunged at the neighbour with it over his head before being taken to the ground and detained.Describing the incident at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, Prosecutor Neil Ahuja said: "A man walked past the house looking for a dog and shouted to someone up the street.
The defendant said, 'Who are you talking to?', before saying, 'I have got a machete'."He paced up and down and said, 'I have got a machete and I will slice everybody up'."Officers used force to take the defendant to the floor and disarm him, while the neighbour believed the defendant was going to stab her.
Another witness described him to the court as a 'maniac'.John, of Market Lane, Hanley, pleaded guilty to affray, and was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for 18 months;Anis Ali, mitigating, said the defendant was having an argument which escalated.
Others became involved and he believed it was 'none of their business'.Mr Ali added: "He'd had a considerable amount of alcohol.
