iPhone scam has been slapped with a 26 month prison sentence in the US.A Chinese national who immigrated to the US in 2013 to become an engineer, Wu helped build an elaborate scam to trick Apple out of iPhones over three-and-a-half years.It seems Apple take fake iPhones very seriously as Haiteng Wu, 32, will face almost $2 million in bills and compensation, and also has to give up the two apartments he bought with cash from the scheme.He even recruited his wife, Jiahong Cai, into the scheme, who now faces a prison sentence for conspiracy to commit mail fraud.Wu received shipments of fake iPhone clones from Hong Kong with spoofed serial numbers from real Apple devices. He and his accomplices would then complain to Apple that the devices were faulty and ask for authentic iPhones as replacements.These were then shipped back overseas to various countries including Hong Kong.Wu reportedly created fake IDs, set up a number of mailboxes, and arranged for travel through the US for his co-conspirators.The US Department of Justice explained how Wu got away with it.It said: "As part of the scheme, Wu and other conspirators received shipments of inauthentic iPhones from Hong Kong.
