Autopsy technician explains why just one piercing is removed after you die
TikTok.Gerald Ledford @big_led73 from Little Rock, Arkansas, has more than 1.4 million folowers on the app and is bombarded with questions about death from his fans.In a video uploaded on April 5, Gerald responds to a user who wants to know about their body and facial piercings."When I die I absolutely need to keep every single one," the worried user wrote.Gerald says: "You worried I’m going to take your piercings out and you don’t get to take them with you?"The only one that I take out is your tongue ring."I remove your tongue during an autopsy – we need to make sure you didn’t bite down on it, make sure you don’t have drugs in the back of your throat."Gerald then confirmed that piercings on "nipples, nose, ears, eyebrow, private parts" don't get removed during a typical autopsy. The video was watched more than 2.5million times and it definitely startled a lot of viewers. One quipped: "Just decided I won't be dying.""Wait! what? Everyone's tongue is removed?" posted another user with the mind-blown emoji.A third cheekily asked: "Can you give me extra piercings? All the ones I couldn’t afford while alive?""So you’re telling me every time I’ve been to a funeral, the person was just chilling with no tongue and I didn’t know?" queried someone else.A funeral director replied that it would only be the case if the dead person had been subjected to an autopsy, which only happens if the cause of death is not clear. This comes after a mortician revealed what happens to breast implants and other surgical enhancements after a person dies. And another funeral director spilled the beans about how she applies makeup to corpses.
