Horror entries usually face front-loaded weekend performances, but the Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse co-production has fired off with a commanding lead. It looks to land the top spot on domestic charts for the weekend, projecting a $31 million haul and toppling last week’s victor “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” in the process.

Katcy Stephan Hideout Pictures’ upcoming western “The Isolate Thief” has added Joe Pantoliano (“The Sopranos”), Ty Simpkins (“Insidious” franchise), Jack Kesy (“The Strain”), Martin Sensmeier (“The Magnificent Seven”) and country music star Bryan Martin to its cast. They will appear alongside previously announced cast members Sean Bean (“The Lord of the Rings”), Mackenzie Foy (“Interstellar”) and Odeya Rush (“Lady Bird”). “The Isolate Thief” began principal photography in Little Rock, Ark.

With this weekend’s grosses, Sony/Screen Gems/Stage 6 Films/Blumhouse’s Insidious: The Red Door has become the biggest horror movie of the year globally at $182.5M, edging M3GAN’s worldwide cume of $180.8M. The current frame was worth $2.5M from 59 overseas markets for an international cume of $101.8M. The Insidious franchise has now earned over $735M worldwide.

It has a long and winding journey to get out of the red, at least in its box office run.

Guns N’ Roses’ guitarist Slash has revealed that he bonded with actor Patrick Wilson over his love for horror movies.The rock and roll legend, who recently worked on the soundtrack for new horror film The Breach, told NME that he met Wilson at a Guns N’ Roses show and instantly hit it off due to their mutual appreciation of each other’s work.Slash then expressed his excitement for Insidious: The Red Door, the upcoming horror sequel in which Wilson reprises his role as Josh Lambert.“Oh I know Patrick Wilson, I met him after the first Insidious,” said the guitarist. “He came to a Guns N’ Roses show because he’s a fan.“We met there and I sort of fanboyed out and managed to get his phone number and now I bug him all the time.

Critics have praised “Joy Ride,” providing it with a 92% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu and Sabrina Wu star in the film.

Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson), the father from the first two “Insidious” films (this one is number five), has just dropped his son off for his freshman year at college. The son, Dalton, is once again played by Ty Simpkins, who was just a spooked kid in the earlier films; now he’s a spooked surly emo art student draped in hippie hair. Eight years ago, Dalton and his father were hypnotized so that they would lose all memory of the Further, the spirit zone Dalton got sucked into as an astral projection of himself. The hypnosis worked; they’ve forgotten the living nightmares they saw. But now the visions are coming back.

The 54-year-old star beat out Adam Sandler, Austin Butler, Bill Nighy and Colin Farrell to take home the trophy for his powerful performance in “The Whale”, and was already in tears as he took the stage to accept the award.
