Liverpool are likely to end their interest in Nuno Mendes if Sporting Lisbon increase the youngster’s £40million release clause, according to reports coming out of Portugal.The Premier League champions are eyeing up a move for Mendes, 18, who has made 18 appearances for Sporting since breaking into their first team last season.While he only put pen to paper on a new five-year contract in June of this year, it is believed the Portuguese club are keen to tie their academy graduate down to an improved deal in the near future.They are yet to open talks with Mendes and agent Miguel Pinho, but contract negotiations with the teenager are said to be a “priority issue” for them.According to A Bola, Sporting want to up the left-back’s £13,000-a-week.
