Russian troops following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. The Antonov An-225 'Mriya' ('Dream') was a staggering 275ft long with a 290ft wingspan.
Capable of carrying 250,000kg of cargo, it was also the word's heaviest aircraft. Sadly, the historic plane was destroyed during the early days of Russia's invasion at Antonov Airport, near to Kyiv, as Ukrainian forces battled to maintain control of the strategically important site.
From around February 25 there were rumours that the Mriya had been destroyed, rumours that were confirmed by Ukrainian aerospace and defence company Ukroboronprom on February 27.
In a Facebook post they explained that the plane didn't have time to escape Russian shelling as it was at the airport undergoing repairs.
