Nicky Zimmermann: In 1983, when Simone and I woke up on Christmas morning, we ran straight to the window to check the weather.

We were teenagers at the time. Living on the seafront in Sydney, our dad took us to the beach while our mum prepared a beautiful breakfast of fresh coffee, fruit salad and pastries, awaiting our return.She’d always be dressed for the occasion in weather-appropriate linen - I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in pyjamas or a robe - and the table was always set with nice cloths, hydrangeas and Christmas bush.

We always had the same kind of itinerary for the day but this particular Christmas was extra special. Our cousin, a fisherman who lives on the coast, arrived with the freshest oysters, prawns and lobster that he had.
