Hypocritical Man Utd fans should thank Louis van Gaal for telling Erik ten Hag the truth

Manchester United supporters seem to be suffering from a serious case of having selective memories.Some of them have taken to social media to criticise former manager Louis Van Gaal for warning Dutch compatriot Erik ten Hag against taking over at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is one of the candidates to become the club's next permanent boss ahead of next season.Van Gaal has told him he would be joining a commercial club, instead of a football club, and that he should think long and hard before making a decision, not that it's his to make.

Ten Hag would be a popular choice among a section of fans. But their anger at what Van Gaal has said is laced with a huge sense of ironic hypocrisy.Not only is Van Gaal right in his assessment, but for the thick end of the last decade all we've heard is United supporters criticise owners the Glazers and former executive vice chairman Ed Woodward for treating the club as a commercial venture.So why are some fans hammering Van Gaal for digging out the same people those supporters have come to despise?
