Last year, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) announced that more than 2,700 Self Assessment tax returns were filed on Christmas Day and revealed thousands of customers used the festive period to get their documents in order and complete the task ahead of the annual deadline on January 31.
The peak time for completing tax returns was between 2pm and 3pm on December 25, with more than 200 customers pressing send on their online form during that 60-minute period.HMRC said that more than 10.7 million customers completed their 2019/20 tax return by January 31, 2021 - including 795,300 Scots - and is encouraging people who may be worried about their tax bill to remember there are other ways to pay.
