Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Gary Neville would try to lure Steven Gerrard to Manchester United when the pair were away on England duty together.Jamie Carragher has revealed that Neville would often attempt to recruit Gerrard for the Red Devils during international breaks and would even go to his room to discuss a transfer.
Luckily for Liverpool fans, Neville was unsuccessful in his bid to bring his England team-mate to Old Trafford, in a move which would likely have tarnished the Aston Villa manager's reputation at Anfield.Carragher made the revelation whilst speaking with Roy Keane for SPORTBible, with Keane also poking fun at Neville's England days.According to Carragher, “Man United tried to sign Stevie.
Gary went to Stevie’s room at England.” This led him to ask Keane “how would that have worked at Manchester United?”Keane responded by joking: “Well obviously he would have been in the ressies for a while.
No but every time Gary would go away with the England squad he’d come back and say we need to sign Gerrard or Rooney. Look we’ll be signing all of them you know what I mean, just because they ran past Gary in training.”Should Manchester United have signed Steven Gerrard from Liverpool?
