And although the entire team played poorly on Tuesday night's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, Maguire once again bore the brunt of supporter anger. The 29-year-old could have done better for two of Liverpool's four goals, including the opener when he was caught out of position as Luis Diaz made it 1-0.
Maguire tried to press Sadio Mane almost in his own half, allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah to run through, with Salah setting up Diaz to score.Salah and Mane both found the net either side of half-time before Maguire was again at fault for the fourth goal.
United's under-fire captain played a hospital pass to Hannibal Mejbri, allowing Andrew Robertson to win back the ball. He played in Salah, who duly made it 4-0 with a deflected effort.
