Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes his previous sides “never stooped” as low as Manchester United ’s current level. The Red Devils suffered another painful humiliation at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s side as a Mohamed Salah brace, coupled with goals from Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane secured a dominant 4-0 victory for the Merseysiders.

The result proceeds the 5-0 thrashing Liverpool gave to United at Old Trafford. However, Carragher may be able to understand some of the Red Devils’ pain, as he was part of a Liverpool side which tried, and failed, to catch a United side that won title after title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

But despite the many struggles Liverpool endured, Carragher believes the teams he were a part of were never as Ralf Rangnick’s current side. “Where Manchester United are right now, that was me in a Liverpool shirt, trying to challenge Manchester United when they were top dogs,” Carragher said to Sky Sports. “They had the manager, they had the squad, they had everything covered and we were just trying to hang onto their coattails.“But what I saw there today, certainly in that first half, what I saw in that first game at Old Trafford, I don’t think we ever stooped that low.

We lost one time 4-0 at Old Trafford, but we had a man sent off after a minute.”Carragher was never able to win a Premier League title, but he did retire with winners medals in the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.
