Jamie Carragher has told Erik ten Hag he should only need two years to get Manchester United challenging for the Premier League title.
The current Ajax boss, 52, has penned a three-year agreement, with the option of an additional year, to succeed Ralf Rangnick when the German moves into an advisory role at the end of the season.
Ten Hag will look to change the dreary atmosphere at Old Trafford with United enduring their worst trophy-barren run in 48 years.The Dutchman is expected to undergo a mass exodus in the summer to overhaul the squad and ship on those players that have underperformed for several years.
But despite competing with several world-class managers, Sky Sports pundit Carragher believes Ten Hag should have United back on top by the end of the 2023/24 season."He [Ten Hag] has taken the job because he knows the prediction that it could take as long as five or six years to catch Liverpool or [Manchester] City is rubbish," he wrote in his column for the Telegraph."At clubs of United’s stature, if you make the right appointment - and you sign the right players to strengthen the spine of your team - the mood changes quickly.
