Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand said he would “sack” dressing room “moles” who leak stories about the club to the press if he was in charge of the club.
Another trophyless season for the Red Devils looks set to climax with the club outside of the Champions League places. But as well as nightmares on the pitch - including but not limited to humiliating defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool, and the early sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – United’s season has also been blighted by a series of quarrels and fallings out leaked into the media.
Paul Pogba’s purported departure from the United Whatsapp group is one of many stories that have been leaked by the press under both Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
And while reflecting on his 12 years at the club, Ferdinand said he would not tolerate any players who reveal dressing room and training ground stories to the media.“You need a culture of people where there is discipline in the group where nothing is getting out,” Ferdinand said to Vibe with Five. “If stuff ever got into the paper, the manager would pull the squad out immediately – I don’t think this happens now – in a tight group in a circle and say ‘what’s going on here, if I find out who is leaking stories to the media'…“And then you would be standing there thinking, ‘I hope I will find out that no one in my team has spoken to anyone in the media, because I haven’t’.
